RDP signifies major investment in rural Ireland - Mulherin

Mayo Fine Gael Deputy Michelle Mulherin, has welcomed this week’s announcement by Minister for Agriculture and the Marine Simon Coveney of a €4 billion Rural Development Programme 2014-2020. Deputy Mulherin said: “Today’s announcement of €4 billion for the Rural Development Programme (RDP) represents a significant investment in rural Ireland and will be a real boost for Mayo. The economic recovery is well under way in Dublin, thanks to the Government’s Action Plan for Jobs, however many people in rural Ireland are still struggling.

Mulherin seeks assistance for Mayo flood victims

Mayo Fine Gael TD Michelle Mulherin is seeking a grant scheme to assist farmers in Mayo hit by the flood and storm damage of recent weeks. Deputy Mulherin is also calling for flood mitigation works for Ballina where householders and business owners have been flooded on a number of occasions since January to be given priority.

Mulherin welcomes €2.4 million to restore N59 between Crossmolina and Bellacorick

Michelle Mulherin, Mayo Fine Gael TD, has welcomed the funding announcement of €2.4 million to restore the N59 between Crossmolina and Bellacorick. She said: "The €2.4 million funding will be used to restore the N59 between Crossmolina, through Carrowkilleen, Dooleeg, and to the far side of Bellacorrick. This is very good news for all those who use the N59 which has suffered severe wear and tear due to the heavy traffic, to and from the Corrib gas project, and the installation of the Bord Gáis pipeline, over recent years. I am delighted that €2.4 million in funding is being made available by the NRA, having raised the issue with the Minister for Transport and Tourism Leo Varadkar in the Dail and asked him the plans and priority he, and the National Roads Authority had, to bring the entire section of this road up to standard. This road is the main artery for business and tourism between Ballina and Belmullet and Erris and I am delighted to have been able to help bring about this substantial investment in this road.”

Ballina playground to get major investment — Mulherin

Mayo Fine Gael TD Michelle Mulherin has welcomed the news that the playground at Tom Ruane Park in Ballina is to re-developed as part of a €200,000 investment in the recreational amenity. Deputy Mulherin said a new play area with landscaped mounds and paths is expected to be completed by next spring. The Tom Ruane Park playground is a popular and much-loved recreational area and open space enjoyed by families and visitors to Ballina, who make great use of the park's many impressive facilities.

Mayo County Council should be decision maker in coastal development for county

Mayo Fine Gael TD Michelle Mulherin has called for decision making on all planning matters relating to foreshore and immediate offshore areas to be left to local councils in the first instance. Deputy Mulherin made her comments in relation to the Maritime Area and Foreshore Amendment Bill 2013 which is being prepared by the Department of the Environment and which proposes making An Bord Pleanála the lead decision maker on planning related issues for coastal and marine areas.
